Corridor WoodCrafters board meeting notes

Board Meeting Notes

Corridor WoodCrafters Board Meeting Notes - 2/24/2026

  • Adam Raub contacted Jim Cox via Facebook to discuss joining the WoodCrafters club, after which he offered to give a tour of his personal sawmill. His mill is a personal side business that has been running for many years. Adam is a 25-year Agriculture teacher at SE Community College who has a personal passion for woodworking. The Board has agreed that we would like to make a May 9 visit to the sawmill, located in rural Mt. Pleasant. We are waiting for his response to clarify time, address, and travel options.

  • The suggestion was made to add a safety topic each month beginning in March. Jeff Lihs will be the first presenter, topic TBD. Presentations will most likely not exceed 15-20 minutes. The April meeting safety topic will be shop electrical considerations, circuit loads, and general electrical safety.

  • MARCH 19 - As previously advertised, March will be would bent-wood lamination show and tell project/topic. Bring you examples to share, along with your descriptions of special or unique hurdles you encountered.

  • We will also hold a discussion in March about finishing techniques. Bring your ideas and questions to share after we see everyone’s lamination projects

  • APRIL 16 - We have rescheduled your Phil Huber visit. Phil was snowed out in February. We are waiting for final confirmation from Phil, which we think is a formality.

  • We remind everyone that our May project for all to bring is called Repurposing something new from something old. That is to create a new project by reusing materials or parts from a no longer needed object or item.

  • MAY 9, 2026 - Sawmill tour to be confirmed.

  • MAY 21 - Show and Tell consists of bringing your repurposing projects to share with the club. There will be time to discuss rationale or background for project choice. The May Safety topic is To Be Determined.

  • Time will be allotted to discuss June’s primary point of discussion. We will be passing out a list of about 50 topics for the member’s consideration. A vote will be taken to determine where the greatest interest lies. The 3-5 most popular choices will be voted upon to choose June’s subject matter. It is possible that we may choose more than one topic.

  • JUNE 18 - The project of the month will consist of the one or two projects/topics that the club voted on at the May meeting. The June Safety topic is To Be Determined. Time will also be allotted for discuss other projects or topics that received high member interest in the May meeting.

  • JULY 16 - Nic Carter of Knot Just Lumber is our guest speaker, pending final approval of the July date by Nic. We have asked Nic to cover the following topics…

  • Sourcing exotic lumber
  • Sourcing native lumber
  • Information about your family’s saw milling business
  • Machine services you provide in-house
  • Any services that you may provide through outsourcing
  • Lumber drying services you provide as well as information about the type of drying you do
  • Any new or unique techniques Knot Just Lumber uses to help the woodworking community
  • Anything else that you feel would be pertinent to discuss with woodworkers
  • There will be lots of time for Q&A as we go, as well as questions that come up after Nic is are done.
